FIRST STEPS

Understand why you have an acne breakout. Young adults are just as likely to get acne breakouts as teens. There are many reasons why we get acne breakouts and many, many more we have fooled ourselves into believing are causes of acne. Here are some myths that have been created about acne.

Acne is caused by poor hygiene, if you believe this and scrub hard, too hard, you can actually make the problem worse, hard scrubbing causes the skin to become irritated and in turn creates more chance for an acne breakout.

Acne is caused by your diet. Extensive research done on the subject shows that there is no correlation between what you eat and acne breakouts, so chow down on all the chocolate and pizza you want.

Acne is untreatable. Very untrue, acne is treatable and doesn’t need to be left alone to run its course. If the products you are using to combat acne are not working you should consider visiting a skin care professional.

TAKING ACTION

1.       Get Clean – get the habit of washing your hands and face twice daily with no soap or a very mild soap if necessary. Once when you wake up and once when you go to bed. Your skin does most of its healing at night and having clean skin when you go to bed will allow your body to properly restore your skin.

2.       Wash Your Hands Often – People are often clueless to how much dirt and oil they carry on their hands and how easily it is transferred to their face through touch, so wash your hands as much as you can.

3.       Use Acne Products – Use benzoyl peroxide or salicyic acid cleansers to wash your face with if you have a hard time getting rid of your acne.
